The Leibniz-Institut für Kristallzüchtung (IKZ) is a leading research institution in the area of science & technology as well as service & transfer of crystalline materials. Our goal is to enable solutions for urgent societal challenges (e.g. communication, artificial intelligence, climate protection, health etc.) by modern electronic & photonic technologies. The work covers the full spectrum from basic over applied research up to pre-industrial development and is performed in collaboration with national and international partners from university, academy and industry. The institute is part of Forschungsverbund Berlin (https://www.fv-berlin.de/) and a member of the Leibniz Association https://www.leibniz-gemeinschaft.de. You can find more details on the institute webpage: https://www.ikz-berlin.de.

The Leibniz-Institut für Kristallzüchtung currently looking for a

 Bachelor- or Masterstudents (m/f/d)

to do their Theses in the field of Semiconductor Crystal Growth.

The Czochralski (Cz) growth of bulk crystals is a unique expertise of our institute and is one of the main stream research activities of volume crystals department. The Si, Ge and SiGe are semiconductor materials, and the high quality crystals of these materials with tailored properties and/or with ultra-high-purity find wider applications in energy-efficient electronics, photonics, quantum computing, or radiation detectors for fundamental research. You will be learning and contributing to the process developments using our pre-industrial scale Cz-pullers and state-of-the art lab facilities.

Pre-requisites:

  • Enrolment in a natural science course (preferably chemistry, physics or materials science)
  • Interest in research & technology
  • Good knowledge of English
  • Basic knowledge of German is advantageous
  • Reliability, motivation and independent work, both in the laboratory and on the computer

 What we offer

  • The opportunity to get to know our unique institute, which researches the scientific and technological questions of crystal growth
  • Working in an international team
  • We offer the students the opportunity to work for 8 hours per week (a 13,00 €) as a student assistant.

Student assistants up to 8 hours per week and interns are also welcome.
